The Bauchi State government has discovered 312 dead persons still on the payroll of local government pensioners.
Disclosing this during a press conference by Special Adviser to the State Governor on Civil Service Affairs, Abdon Gin, in Bauchi, he said the state government had saved over N91,404,296.19 from the discovery.
According to him, the discovery was made by the panel set up by the state governor on the verification of workers, who did not have Bank Verification Number (BVN).
He stated that, the committee discovered 312 deceased local government workers on the pensioners’ nominal and payrolls, whose monthly value is N9,921,511.48, adding that this amount was recovered and has been permanently removed from both the nominal and payrolls.
While explaining that, the committee discovered nine deceased state pensioners from the nominal and payrolls, amounting to a monthly value of N234, 521.91; and affirmed that this figure “has also permanently removed from both the nominal roll and payroll.”
He further explained that, “The committee discovered 48 deceased local government staff during the physical verification and they were removed. Before then, this was costing the government N1,999,803.90 monthly.”
