In preparation for the resumption of schools in Kaduna, the state government is making plans to purchase locally-made automated temperature measuring devices and hand sanitizing dispersal machines to be placed in all its public schools.

The devices and the machines are manufactured by the School of Engineering and Technology, Nuhu Bamalli Zaria.

Speaking on the products during the presentation of the devices, the permanent secretary, ministry of education, Mrs Phoebe Sukai Yayi, said the equipment were part of the guidelines, which Kaduna state government schools and private support are to meet before the resumption, so that as soon as the students are coming into the premises, they will have a point where their temperatures are measured, point for washing hands as well as sanitize their hands.

She noted that the production of the locally-made machines was a welcome development, as the government does not have to travel outside the country to purchase the equipment, since these are available within the state and, on a cheaper rate.

According to her, the presentation of the machine is part of the preparation of the schools resumption, in order to avoid taking long periods of time before getting the device.

She said already, the washing hands point are being provided to various schools by the RuWASA, and that with the machines produced by the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, the state government is “right on course.”

The Permanent Secretary, while commending the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic for their effort, assured them of the state’s readiness to patronize them as well as encourage other states and organizations to do same.

Earlier in his speech during the presentation, the Director of School of Engineering, Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Engineer Abubakar Jumare, said his department was challenged by the Rector of the polytechnic, Engineer Muhammed Kabiru Abdullahi, to come up with a proposal that can help reduce the spread of Covid-19.

“We took up the challenge and formed an eleven-man committee. A prototype of the temperature measuring machine and the hand sanitizer dispensing machine was produced, and an observation was made before the final production of the equipment, which is still subject to observation.”
