The High Court of Justice in Kaduna State will deliver its judgment on the motion by Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, praying for the dismissal of the case against him by the government for failure to produce evidence on Tuesday 29th September.
This was coming after counsel to Sheikh El-Zakzaky defended their motion and the government’s counsel made a counter motion when the court sat on today, 7th August, in Kaduna.
Sheikh El-Zakzaky’s lawyer argued that the court should dismiss the charges against their clients because they are devoid of any merit and will not stand before any court of law, adding that the charges are also an abuse of court process.
He said that the Sheikh was charged with abetting commission of various offences, but those charged with committing those offences have been discharged and acquitted by the Kaduna State High Court. “As such, abetment cannot stand.”
Though, the followers of the Sheikh were not comfortable with the date fixed for the judgment, reporters were made to understand that it was due to the annual leave of judges scheduled to commence next week.
