Again, five more people have lost their lives in Kaduna on Thursday in another heinous attack by alleged armed herdsmen in Kizachi-Chawai community in Kauru local government area of southern Kaduna.
The Thursday killing triggered hundreds of Southern Kaduna women’s protests in nudity, coupled with the incessant attacks and killings by Fulani gunmen, leaving men also injured.
The aggrieved women stormed the Agwam Atyap Palace, in Zangon-Kataf stripped naked, protesting against the attack and killings by the armed herdsmen in Southern Kaduna and the comments of the Presidency over the current crisis in the troubled area.
Some of the protesters, who were chanting songs, painted themselves with charcoal, rolled themselves on the bare floor at the frontage of the palace, condemned government’s handling of the attack and killings by the Fulani herdsmen.
One of the women leaders, Juliet Amos, said “We are protesting against the killings and destruction of communities in Southern Kaduna, the killings of our husbands, children, women and our relations by the Fulani people, who carry guns; and government is not doing anything. And the whole world is watching them killing us.
“In the middle of this attack and the killings,” she said, “the Presidency is now justifying what is happening by saying that it is political and a reprisal and counter-attack. How can this government by saying this, instead of finding solution. The governor has openly been showing that he is not bothered on what is happening to us.
“So, we have sent our message by the Agwam Atyap to the Presidency. We have condemned what is happening in Nigeria – the attack and killings everywhere, especially by Fulanis against our people in Southern Kaduna.”
Besides, the trail of women protesters were said to have mobilized themselves from Atyap, Mabushi, Samaru, Tagama, Unjwan Juju and other neighbouring villages, which converged protesting naked at the Agwam Atyap’s (Sarkin Kataf) House at Atak Njei.
Meanwhile, armed herdsmen were also said to have attacked Kizachi-Chawai Village, in Chawai chiefdom, Kauru LGA ofKkaduna state, on Wednesday.
The spokesman of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union, SOKAPU, Luka Binniyat, gave the five names of those, who lost their lives in the attack, as: Kefas Monday, Lydia Monday, Jummai Monday, Giwa Thomas, and Living Yohanna. Two others, who were but seriously injured, are Monday Ibrahim and Alheri Dauda.
Binniyat said that “The protest by the Southern Kaduna women was against the comments by the Presidency over the killings of our people and the fact that the federal government is not ready to protect its citizens.
“The attack and killings by the herdsmen of our people is now everyday affairs, and this government is not doing anything about it, only for the Presidency to be issuing statements to justify the killings. This is unacceptable,” Binniyat stated.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna Police Command’s spokesman, Muhammad Jalige, promised to get back to the journalists on the latest attack in Chawai chiefdom in Kauru local government area, where five people were said to have lost their lives. But, at the time of going to press, he had not responded.
