Lingering Kaduna PDP Crisis: Party Suspends Sen. Hunkuyi, 6 Others For “Anti-Party Activities”

…“No! We insist on internal party democracy.” – Danfulani reacts

by Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

The State Working Committee, SWC, of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Kaduna State, has suspended seven active members of the party, including Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi over what it termed as “antiparty activities” with divergent reasons.

A non-member of the party, bearing Col. Dauda Albehu Gora, working against the interest of the party has also been warned by SWC to desist, describing him as an impostor.

But a staunch member of the party, who was among those suspended by the state working committee, Dr. John Danflani, has reacted immediately (through a statement sent to our correspondent through WhatsApp) asserting that they were suspended for insisting that internal party democracy must be at play; “because we are asking of internal party democracy; because we said ‘you can’t be contesting and be a CTC member at the same time.’ Nothing more, nothing less,” he stated.

Those suspended include Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi, Hon. Hashim Garba from Kubau Local Government, former Deputy Speaker, Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr Mato Dogara of Lere Local Government and Ibrahim Lazuru also of Lere Local Government.

Others include rights activists, Dr John Danfulani of Kachia Local Government, Lawal Imam Adamu (Soba Local Government) and Ubale Salmanduna from Zaria Local Government, respectively.

The decision to suspend them was taking during a meeting of SWC, which held on Saturday, 16 May, 2020, in the state.

A release signed and made available to journalists in Kaduna by the State Publicity Secretary, Abraham Alberah Catoh, stated that, “After preliminary hearing on party discipline, the SWC resolved to suspend the affected members, for anti-party activities, in line with the provision of the party constitution, as provided in Section 57(3) 2017, as amended.

“That the said members stand suspended from the party from today, the 16th day of May, 2020, and will be expected to appear before the disciplinary committee on a date and time to be announced by the committee.

“The SWC further resolved that, Col. Dauda Albehu Gora is not a registered member of the PDP and, therefore, he is an impersonator.

“The party has submitted his name (Col. Goes) to all security agencies to take note of his activities. We shall take necessary action against him should he continue with his activities against the PDP.
