CUPP frowns at Gov. El-Rufai’s move to transfer-out indigene police personnel

Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, in Kaduna state has alleged move by the state governor, Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, to deploy all the state indigenes’ police officers working in the state.

A member of the Coalition and Kaduna state chairman of Alliance National Party, ANP, Ashafa Sadiq, raised the alarm in an interview with journalists in Zaria, Kaduna state.

He alleged that the governor has paid a visit to the Inspector-General of Police to lobby for the deployment to suit his personal desire. Sadiq warned that the Coalition of United Political Parties will vehemently resist that attempt, which is aimed at rigging the forthcoming general election.

“We at the coalition would not accept that move, and will stand firm to resist any attempt of the governor to rig the next coming election. What we are saying is not speculation because everybody saw the governor’s visit to the IGP, and we are aware of his personal mission,” he said.

The ANP chairman also accused the governor of trying to use a “self-established” security outfit in polling stations during election to help him rig the polls.

“We will also not condone the use of government’s sponsored security outfit known as ‘Kato da Gora,’ which has now been transformed into Kaduna state vigilante service.

“We are not unaware of the fact that Malam Nasir El-Rufai transformed the outfit into a salary earning organization just for the purpose of the upcoming election. So, while we totally condemned the move, the Coalition of United Political Parties in Kaduna state will vehemently resist the use of such personnel near any of the polling centres or booth across the state.

The ANP chairman in the state said the opposition is, therefore, urging all relevant authorities to prevail on the purported move by Governor El-Rufai to ensure hitch-free and credible election.

He enjoined opposition supporters not to panic, as the coalition is doing everything legally possible to stop the governor from attaining his selfish maneuvers for political gains.

Sadiq appealed to the teeming opposition supporters to come enmasse during election to change the present administration in the state and the country as a whole. He implored them to conduct themselves peacefully and abide by all electoral rules and regulations to ensure free, fair and credible 2019 election.
