Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Kaduna, said the Commission will not work with any security operatives outside officers from federal government security outfits.
Kaduna INEC’s Public Affairs Officer, Fatima Aminu Bande, who made the clarification in an interview at Arewa House Kaduna, also stated that the Commission will not even work with JTF or Vigilantes during the elections.
She was reacting to questions fielded by journalists on alleged recruitment of private security for February elections by Kaduna State Government. According to her, the entire security arrangement for the election would be handled by the Nigeria Police Force.
“INEC relies entirely on Nigeria Police for the protection of its personnel, ad-hoc staffs and materials during election, and only those security recruited by federal government will be used.”
Hajiya Fatima Bande also stated that the Commission is trying to re-configurate some polling units to shied voters from being exposed to the party or candidates to know whether or not a particular person voted for them or not, in terms of trying to curb the menace of vote-buying.
She explained that “In the past, you would observe that the cubicle for voting and ballot box for ballot papers were in the open. The Commission is working towards placing materials backing audience in such a way that no one would see you or take your photographs during the voting as it had been done during vote-buying.
The image-maker also disclosed that the Commission is also trying to curb the use of electronic gadgets at the polling units to keep the identities of the electorates from being taken while casting their votes.
She thanked the organizer for doing the INEC job for organising sensitization and education for the electorates on election and peace.
