Kaduna-Zaria expressway was yesterday terribly grounded to a halt for hours, following the flag-off campaign of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate, Mr Ashiru Isa Kudan, which held at Kilometer-17, Kaduna International Trade Fair, Rigachikun, as venue.
PDP supporters from Zaria, Kaduna, Kano, Plateau state and environments were forced to trek for kilometers due to the traffic logjam in the Rigachikun area of Kaduna state.
Commuters on long journey and other road users plying the road within the areas and those from the far north went through hell, with many having their car engines exhausted, and on some cases almost knocked down completely on road, with many passengers stranded.
Most journalists, who went there, were unable to gain entrance into the Trade Fair premises to give the flag-off campaign a befitting coverage due to fatigue from long time trekking, as most vehicles could not arrive anywhere close to the venue due to the “go slow.”
Our correspondent, who was a star witness, reported that although the presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate Obi, the campaign chairman, coordinator, national chairman and others did not attend the flag-off in Kaduna Thursday.
However, former interim chairman of the party, Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Engr. Buba Galadima, State chairman Hassan Hyet, among others, were present at the event.
During his remarks, representative of the Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, told the mammoth crowd that Atiku Abubakar and others would be attending the presidential campaign scheduled for 24th January this year, for Atiku.
In his remarks, the governorship candidate of Kaduna state PDP, Ashiru Isa Kudan, said he will “turn around the misfortune of the citizens of Kaduna state and also cushion the economic hardship ravaging the state,” if elected as governor, urging the electorates to ensure that they collect their permanent voters cards and did not sell it.
A spokesperson of the party, Engr. Buba Galadima, told the supporters that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, government made fake promises of changing the living condition of Nigerians, and therefore, called on electorate to turn out enmasse and vote in the PDP for meaningful change and development.
He challenged the supporters not to be intimated, and stand by credible candidates, who can lead the country to prosperity, economic and freedom from insecurity.
